A teenage girl in Michigan is facing murder charges after she stabbed her seven-year-old sister over a note placed on the bathroom door.
The Taylor Police Department was called to the scene on Saturday, September 28 after receiving reports of a stabbing, according to multiple local reports. Upon arriving at the scene, a seven-year-old was immediately transported to an area hospital, where she later died from her injuries.
The girls' parents had left them at home with the older girl, who was babysitting the younger sister.
Detective Zachary DiGiacomo said the argument "stemmed from a note that was placed in the bathroom" about "flushing the toilet."
DiGiacomo revealed that the victim was reportedly stabbed multiple times with a butcher's knife and hunting knife and had "over 10 stab wounds ranging from the abdomen to the head to the neck," according to FOX2.
Further, the detective shared that the older sister showed little emotion and was very calm.
The teen is now facing several charges, including first-degree premeditated murder, felony murder, and first-degree child abuse, according to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office.
While she won't be tried as an adult in the case, she will be kept in a juvenile detention center.
"The state would have seven years to diagnose, treat, and rehabilitate her until her mandatory release at age 21. Hopefully, then, she would not be a danger to others. While this is a difficult decision, given these facts, it is the right thing to do in this case," said Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy.
