A New Hampshire man is facing a second-degree murder charge after prosecutors say he fatally bludgeoned his 76-year-old grandmother with a hammer inside their Easton home.

Authorities were alerted of a medical emergency at a home on North Peak Drive in Easton on Saturday. When state troopers arrived at the scene, they found Cynthia Lanchester, 76, on the ground, deceased.

Lanchester's grandson, Joshua Lanchester, 23, was arrested on one count of second-degree murder for recklessly causing his grandmother's death with a deadly weapon, reported WCVB.

Investigators said the 76-year-old was found with blunt force trauma to the head, seemingly inflicted with a hammer.

Joshua is being held without bail pending an arraignment scheduled for Monday, and an autopsy to confirm Cynthia Lanchester's cause of death is scheduled for Sunday.
