An Alabama prison inmate is accused of allegedly orchestrating several hit jobs, including that of his on-again, off-again girlfriend, from his jail cell.
Demarcus Chandler, 26, is charged with conspiracy to commit murder, discharging a firearm into a building, and discharging a firearm into a vehicle.
The 26-year-old allegedly plotted the hits from inside his prison cell, one in 2020 and another last month, according to AL.com.
Authorities accused Chandler of hiring 26-year-old Solomon Minatee III to kill his girlfriend Raven Swain for $8,000.
Both are charged with capital murder in Swain's murder.
Swain was fatally shot in Birmingham's Underwood Park in August 2020.
She was found unresponsive, slumped over in the driver's seat of her car, and had been shot under the left arm, with the bullets penetrating her heart and lung.
Police have previously testified that Chandler and Minatee exchanged numerous texts and Facebook messages before and after the shooting.
Three people told detectives that Chandler had reached out to them from St. Clair Correctional Facility via Facebook or text in the moments after Swain was killed.
In one of the messages, he allegedly wrote, "Your sister has been shot. You need to go find her in the park by Southtown."
Chandler is set to go to trial in 2025 in Swain's death.
In 2024, Chandler and accomplice Justin Jamond Hendrix plotted to kill a man whose identity remains unknown. The intended victim was not injured, according to AL.com.
Both suspects are charged with conspiracy to commit murder, discharging a firearm into a building and discharging a firearm into a vehicle.
Chandler, who has a significant criminal history that dates back to when he was just 16 years old, is currently serving his time at the Holman Correctional Facility.
