A Minnesota man is facing murder charges after police say he gunned down a family member during a child's birthday over being "disrespected."
Lue Chang, 32, is facing a second-degree murder charge after allegedly killing Nichanon Kittikroekphon, 34, on September 21.
Chang, 32, allegedly shot his cousin Nichanon, a popular Thai musician, in the back during a family gathering celebrating recent births, according to FOX9.
Witnesses told Brooklyn Park police that roughly 30 people were at the home for the celebration when Chang fired two shots at Kittikroekphon's front side, who immediately fell to the ground.
Chang fired another shot into the victim as he tried to crawl away, FOX9 reported.
Witnesses were able to wrestle the gun away from the suspect and call 911.
When asked why Chang shot his cousin, he allegedly stated, "Because he disrespected me."
Another person in attendance told police he heard Chang tell Kittikroekphon, "Today, you are going to die," before he pulled out his gun and shot him.
Surveillance footage looking over the yard showed Chang approach the victim and say something while appearing upset. Detectives noted Kittikroekphon was unarmed and did not pose any threat to Chang.
Several children, as young as two, were reportedly also in close vicinity to the shooting.
Chang was booked into the Hennepin County Jail, where he remains on a $1 million bond.
If convicted, he could serve up to 40 years in prison.
