An Indiana University student is facing rape and strangulation charges after allegedly assaulting two women at a campus fraternity house in the same week. He's the third student accused of sexual assault charges since the school year started about a month ago.

Noah Apgar was taken into custody on Tuesday and is facing a slew of felony charges, including five counts of rape, one count of strangulation and a criminal confinement charge.

Dave Pascarella, director of communications for Sigma Alpha Epsilon, where Apgar was a member, said in a statement, "Upon learning of the alleged incident, SAE immediately suspended the member and began working with the University administration."

"Sigma Alpha Epsilon denounces all acts of sexual violence. Violence in any form does not represent the fraternity's values as defined by our creed, The True Gentlemen," he added.

Apgar is the third male student at Indiana University to be arrested and charged in connection with sexual assaults since late August, according to the student-run television channel.

Gregory Gabler, 18, was arrested earlier this month on rape charges, while 18-year-old Jackson Arnold was detained during welcome week after a female student reported that he repeatedly touched her sexually. Arnold is facing three counts of sexual battery.

According to IU's 2023 Security and Public Safety Report, there were 38 recorded rapes on the IU Bloomington campus in 2022, with five reported off campus, for a total of 43. This was an increase from 2021, when there were 24 reported rapes on campus and seven off campus, for a total of 31.
