A California state senator recently sued by her former chief of staff for allegedly forcing him to perform sex acts on her while they worked together announced earlier this week she is co-sponsoring a bill targeting sex trafficking minors.
Sen. Marie Alvarado-Gil is accused of sexual harassment, discrimination, retaliation and violations of other state labor laws, according to the civil lawsuit filed by ex-staffer, Chad Condit, in Sacramento Superior Court, earlier this month, the Lawyer Herald previously reported.
On Monday, Alvarado-Gil announced on X she is "urging the governor" to sign SB-1414 "to help bring an end to trafficking minors for sex & bring justice to victims of this heinous crime."
"No one should have to endure the horrors of being bought & sold for sex--especially our children," she wrote.
In his lawsuit, Condit portrays Alvardo-Gil as an erratic, controlling, sexually abusive authority figure, according to KCRA.
"This was a sex-based quid pro quo relationship of unwelcome advances and sexual behaviors coupled with punishment and flexing of power," he said, the outlet reported.
Condit worked for Alvarado-Gil first on her campaign when she ran as a Democrat for Senate District 4 in 2022. He became her chief of staff when she was elected but was fired last year.
Condit, who is married, claimed he was pressured to perform oral sex on the California Senator when they traveled together for work. He said he complied with her alleged demands in order to protect his job.
He was fired in December 2023 after rejecting her alleged sexual advances.
