The Virginia father accused of hiding his missing wife's body then waiting days to report her disappearance was allegedly caught on surveillance footage disposing of several trash bags containing bloody evidence, according to prosecutors.
Prosecutors presented shocking new evidence during a bond hearing Friday, alleging Naresh Bhatt, 37, drove to multiple communities near Manassas Park, Virginia, to get rid of trash in several dumpsters.
Citing area surveillance video, prosecutors said Bhatt was wearing gloves when he allegedly attempted to get rid of damning proof tied to the disappearance and presumed death of his wife, Mamta Bhatt, 28, in late July, according to WUSA-TV.
Bhatt allegedly disposed of one of the garbage bags containing a bloody bath mat in a clothing donation bin.
A judge subsequently denied Bhatt bond, citing "overwhelming evidence" he is a flight risk.
"She was systematically dismembered," Holly Wirth, a former co-worker, said, according to the station. "I have news for you, she's not garbage."
Bhatt is being held on a charge of concealing a dead body.
He has not been formally charged with murder, although prosecutors alleged evidence of blood, including spatters and pools, were found in the couple's home, in early August.
"The gravity of the evidence that... (prosecutors) brought forward was stuff that we were absolutely unprepared for, that really talked to the fact that Mamta was murdered," Wirth added, the station reported. "Horrible things were done to her."
"The monster needs to be behind bars and the Commonwealth needs to make sure they bring murder charges," supporter Angel Rodas told WUSA outside the courthouse.
Loved ones last saw Mamta July 27 at UVA Health Prince William Medical Center in Manassas, where she worked as a registered nurse, according to WJLA-TV.
Police conducted a welfare check on Aug. 2 after she failed to show up to work.
Three days after police visited the couple's home, Bhatt reported his wife missing.
His trial is slated to begin in December.
