After a week-long trial, Mississippi teenager Carly Gregg has been found guilty of first degree murder, guilty of attempted murder and guilty of tampering with evidence.
Gregg, 14 at the time, allegedly fired off three rounds – two into the face – of her mother, Ashley Smylie, a 40-year-old math teacher with Northwest Rankin High School, in March, killing her and one shot at her stepfather, who survived the attack, according to WAPT.
During the second day of testimony, Gregg, who was tried as an adult, broke down in tears while watching the video of police discovering her mother's body.
Her stepfather, Heath Smylie also testified during Gregg's trial.
"They loved each other so much. Just everything she did she planned out for Carly and around Carly," he said of his wife.
Gregg, now 15, allegedly suffered from depression on occasion and had been seeing a therapist, Smylie told the court.
The teen's trial told Rankin County Circuit Court Judge Dewey Arthur that she "would like to wait and see the testimony" before agreeing to testify in her own case.
Prosecutors believe Gregg was purportedly motivated to kill after her mom found her secret stash of vape pens hidden in her bedroom.
Gregg faces up to two life sentences if convicted, after rejecting a plea deal of 40 years in prison, last month.
