In a chilling case of betrayal, a Colorado man endured a horrific 14-hour ordeal at the hands of his four roommates, who allegedly bound, beat, and tortured him with baseball bats and crowbars before he managed to escape their clutches.
Deputies from the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office arrived at the Saint Anthony's Medical Center in Lakewood on Monday after a 45-year-old man in the emergency room had a harrowing incident to report.
The man told officers that his roommates had tied him up and beaten him for over 14 hours, according to Jefferson County officials.
He was reportedly in the basement when he overheard his roommates—later identified as 49-year-old Jason Carlson, 48-year-old Sherell Allen, 39-year-old Jimmy Ray Smith II, and 41-year-old Luke Anaya—planning their attack on him.
Failing to crawl out a window, he barricaded himself in the room by blocking the door with numerous items. However, the men allegedly broke through and fired rock salt at him from airsoft-type guns before they started assaulting him.
He was allegedly bound to a chair with zip ties and electrical tape. They then "took turns," beating the victim's knees with a baseball bat before dousing rubbing alcohol on the victim's face and lighting it on fire.
The torture continued in the basement and upstairs until two individuals entered the home and told the suspects to leave him alone. The victim was eventually taken to Saint Anthony's Medical Center.
The SWAT team arrested Carlson, Allen, and Anaya. They currently remain on bond while Smith is still at large. All four suspects face charges of attempted first-degree murder, kidnapping, and assault.
A motive remains unclear.
