EA fixes FIFA 14, EA Sports UFC erroneously charges on XBox One users

By

Early this Friday, XBox One users were surprised when FIFA 14 and EA Sports UFC video game demos were priced at £3.99 in the UK and $4.99 in North America and Australia respectively, Digital Spy reported. Polygon, on a tip by NeoGAF user WarpathDC, the playable demo content for FIFA 14 showed a price listing of $6.65 for Australian accounts upon checking.

The FIFA 14 demo was launched on September 10 ahead of its full launch on the PlayStation 3 console on September 24, XBox 360 and PC, and reportedly at the launch for new generation consoles, the tech blog noted. The demo, along with the one for EA Sports UFC, should have been playable for free.

When Digital Spy asked Electronic Arts about the price listing, the company said in a statement, "The price associated with the FIFA 14 and EA Sports UFC demos was due to a technical error. Both demos have now been fixed in the Microsoft store."

The news about the demo pricing came following the conclusion of the the FIFA Interactive World Cup (FIWC) on Thursday, USA Today reported. Danish teenager August Rosenmeier emerged as the champion against contender David Bytheway at a 3-1 victory. The 18 year-old Rosenmeier, who claims to have trained four to six hours a day in preparation for the tournament, won the top prize of $20,000 for beating tens of hundreds of entrants.

Rosenmeier said that he was glad that he won but would have preferred to win the actual thing. The Danish teenager, who also plays for a local football club back home in Denmark, said, "If I am honest, I prefer real football. I am ambitious and I hope I can take some of my mental strengths here into the real game. Maybe if I am really lucky it will be me saying hello to the winner of FWIC 2015."
