Joachim Low definitely has something to celebrate despite the exit of his friend and mentor Jurgen Klinsmann and the US Men's National Tea, from the World Cup. According to Daily Mail, Germany became the first national team in the tournament to reach the semifinals for winning the crucial quarterfinal match against France at 1-0. This is considering the fact that seven members of its team have exhibited signs of having a cold.
The day before the match, Low has high expectations of his team and shrugged off the possibility that illness will hold them back to gain one step closer to a tournament championship, BBC said.
Without revealing who the sick seven players were, he said, "Some of them still have a bit of a cold, but it hasn't been the case that they have had any feeling of tiredness. I hope they all remain stable and that we don't see any deterioration."
Defender Mats Hummels and midfielder Christoph Kramer would be two of the German team who were obviosly ill, with the former earlier in the week missing the last-16 win on Monday against Algeria. Nonetheless, it certainly did not hold back Hummels, who made the decisive header in the first half of the match on Friday at the Maracana, with the rest of his team, especially goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, holding up a defense against France to secure the lead all through the end of the game time.
Low earlier gave praise to his team ahead of the match, and said that Germany has yet to show the world their best performance yet in the tournament.
"This isn't some easy-to-figure out computer game and your own team isn't always easy to program, but you have to find the right combinations. You either win and stay or lose and go home," Low stated.
Germany is expected to face the winner of the Brazil vs Colombia match to compete for a place in the final, which will be on July 13, Daily Mail said.
