Luis Suarez somewhat acknowledges bite, offers public apology to Chiellini

By

On Monday, the world was able to hear the side of embattled Uruguayan soccer player Luis Suarez, who since, has been imposed by FIFA a wide-ranging ban that threatens his career as a professional athlete. Suarez has been banned from nine international matches and all football and football-related activities for four months for biting Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini during a group match between both national teams in this year's World Cup.

In his official Twitter account, Suarez posted a photo of what appeared to be a letter addressed to Chiellini. The letter read, "After several days of being home with my family, I have had the opportunity to regain my calm and reflect about the reality of what occurred during the Italy-Uruguay match on 24 June 2014. Independent from the fallout and the contradicting declarations that have surfaced during these past days, all of which have been without the intention of interfering with the good performance of my national team, the truth is that my colleague Giorgio Chiellini suffered the physical result of a bite in the collision he suffered with me."

In his tweet, Suarez expressed his regrets on what occurred during the incident. Moreover, he said his apologies to Chiellini and "the entire football family," which could mean his fans, FIFA, his sponsors and to anyone who might have been affected with his actions. Moreover, he also vowed that such incident would never happen again.

Daily Mail noted that Chiellini has retweeted the apology, which could mean that he had accepted the troubled Uruguayan's apology. Chiellini has earlier expressed his thoughts about the FIFA ban and called the suspension very severe.

"It's all forgotten. I hope FIFA will reduce your suspension," Chiellini replied to Suarez on Twitter.

Uruguay national team chief Oscar Tabarez has been very vocal about the FIFA ban, and made claims that the world soccer body made Suarez their global scapegoat after English media purportedly pressured it to ban the Liverpool player.
