On Wednesday, the least popular game in this year's World Cup has taken place in Salvador, Yahoo Sports said. Considering the fact that both Iran and Bosnia and Herzegovina have the least amount of traveling supporters, tickets were sold as cheap as $90.
Bosnia-Herzegovina, which is playing in its first World Cup, has been unlucky to have gotten itself eliminated early on in the tournament, especially in its previous, controversial match loss against Nigeria. Star striker Edin Dzeko's goal was called offside despite scoring the goal on a clean break right through Nigerian defense, the sports blog said. Moreover, the northeast Brazilian city was an expensive area to travel to, as flights from Sao Paolo or Rio de Janeiro to Salvador were more expensive than tickets to other World Cup venues like Belo Horizonte or Brasilia.
In the match between the Bosnians and the Iranians, there was only one other highlight apart from Dezko's goal in the 24th minute, Buzzfeed said. In the 20th minute ahead of the goal, Bosnia's Vedad Ibisevic tried to gain a foul in the penalty area against the Iranians for a chance to score a goal. However, Ibisevic was not able to get a call from the referee. The Bosnians further dashed Iran's dreams of advancing to the knockout rounds when Miralem Pjanic scored another goal for Bosnia.
In the second half of the match, Iran marked another first for the country by scoring its first-ever goal in the tournament, cutting Bosnia's lead to 2-1. However, the Bosnian's retaliated and scored another, upping its lead by 3-1 and eventually securing its first ever World Cup win.
Although both teams were going home following the match. the Bosnians and Iranians made histories in the tournament. Argentina, who had won over Nigeria in a 3-2 win, both advance from Group F, Buzzfeed said.
