Tim Cahill of Australia and Robin van Persie of Netherlands has made goals in spectacular fashion during their team's matches during the early round of the 2014 World Cup. However, the two are expected to not see action in their team's next matches, Yahoo Sports said.
Cahil, who made a stunning volley in the 21st minute of Australia's match agains the Netherlands in Porto Alegre, was booked shortly for a late challenge on Bruno Martins Indi, securing his second yellow card of the tournament. Van Persie, who probably had made the most memorable World Cup goal ever with a looping header against tournament champion Spain last week, was also booked for putting his hand in the face of Matthew Spiranovic.
Yahoo Sports said a football player snagging two yellow cards in group play would be automatically suspended to play in the next match.
Van Persie's absence in his team's next match against Chile is crucial, considering that their win would help Netherlands advance out of the group stage, the Bleacher Report said. Van Persie's performance in the World Cup so far had made him an important ingredient to Netherland's victory against a dark-horse Chile team. On the other hand, the sports blog said that Arjen Robben would need to redouble his game. ESPN Stats & Info noted that Netherlands could secure a victory considering the dynamism Robben has showed in the tournament.
"Arjen Robben has 6 career #WorldCup goals. Johnny Rep is the only Dutchman to score more (7)," ESPN tweeted.
The Australian's tackle against Netherlands' Bruno Martins Indi has somewhat overshadowed the goal that he had made just minutes earlier in the match that earned him his second yellow card, CBS Sports said. The health status of Indi, who appeared to have landed on his face, has yet to be known, but it has been reported that he suffered an "upper body injury" due to the tackle.
