FBI accuses social media manager of terrorism-related charges

By

A recently unsealed complaint filed by the US Federal Bureau of Investigation detailed that the authorities have charged a social media manager of possession of an illegal destructive device. Ryan Chamberlain, who was arrested Monday night following a manhunt, will be in custody until his detention hearing slated for at least Thursday morning, Buzzfeed reported.

Chamberlain's arrest was spurred from a search conducted at his apartment in San Francisco. FBI spokesman Peter Lee confirmed that Chamberlain's apartment contained explosives, and authorities are fearing that his car, which is a white 2008 Nissan Altima, could be rigged with them as well, ABC 7 news said.

Earlier in the day, the FBI and the San Francisco Police Department were tight-lipped about Chamberlain's arrest and only said that the investigation on the social media manager is ongoing.

The arrest of Chamberlain, who stands at 6 foot 3, was a shock to colleagues in the political and PR industry, the viral news site said. PR professional Alex Clemons, who had worked with Chamberlain at Barbary Coast, had told NBC Bay Area following his colleague's arrest, The only thing menacing about Ryan is the fact that he starts each day being 6 foot 3."

His profile information from LinkedIn and About.me paints Chamberlain as a hardworking guy who is a die-hard sports and music fan. One of his high-profile gigs prior to the arrest according to his personal website is his work for San Francisco politician Gavin Newsom.

Chamberlain's case was odd considering the fact that many of his social media accounts remained intact even after the FBI has conducted its search. On June 2, Chamberlain has rejected to reports that he is armed. The San Francisco Examiner reported that an iCloud user with Chamberlain's namesake had published a goodbye note, detailing his downward spiral after the loss of his last gig Project Sport.
