Police charges 'The Shield' star in fatal shooting of his wife

By

Yahoo Celebrity reports that actor Michael Jace has been charged by the Los Angeles Police Department for his hand in the death of his wife, April, in 2007. His booking sheet noted that the 51 year-old was arrested on Tuesday by the department's South Bureau Homicide division and was charged with felony homicide, and that he can be temporarily release on a million-dollar bail.

Jace's 22-year career had been colorful, with his portrayal a cop who is confused with his sexuality in the Michael Chiklis-led series "The Shield" a major highlight. He had also made several appearances on LAPD crime drama "Southland," and even played basketball legend Michael Jordan in the film biopic "Michael Jordan: An American Hero."

Telling KCBS, Detective Sal LaBarbera said that police had responded to several emergency calls from the Jaces' home of ten years together with their two sons. Police who arrived at the Jaces noted that Michael was at the doorway. April was found in the front hallway dead with multiple gunshot wounds. Although both of their 10 year-old sons were at home the night their mom was found dead, it was unclear if they had witnessed the fatal shooting, Yahoo Celebrity said. LaBarbera added that April's son from a previous relationship, who is already in college, arrived at the Jaces around 15 minutes prior to the fatal shooting.

It was telling that Jace was considered the police's primary suspect after investigators have declared that they are not looking for any additional suspects in April's fatal shooting. Moreover, Law enforcement sources confided to the Los Angeles Times that the actor had confessed to shooting his wife.

It was unclear what led the actor in fatally shooting his wife, if found guilty. Yahoo Celebrity said that there was no official history of police responding to the Jaces over domestic violence incidents. Also, it as the police's first time to be at the Jace residence.
