Disgraced former movie mogul Harvey Weinstein was rushed to a hospital Monday from Rikers Island where he is being held for emergency heart surgery after he complained of chest pains, representatives say, as court date for sexual misconduct looms.
"Mr. Weinstein was rushed to Bellevue Hospital last night due to several medical conditions," Weinstein representatives Craig Rothfeld and Juda Engelmayer said in a statement.
"We can confirm that Mr. Weinstein had a procedure and surgery on his heart today however cannot comment any further than that," ABC News further revealed.
They continued, "As we have extensively stated before, Mr. Weinstein suffers a plethora of significant health issues that need ongoing treatment. We are grateful to the executive team at the New York City Department of Correction and Rikers Island for acting swiftly in taking him to Bellevue Hospital."
Weinstein's health crises occurs as he is scheduled to appear in a New York court Thursday for a pre-trial hearing, where prosecutors have been presenting evidence to a grand jury in an effort to secure a fresh indictment on charges related to sexual misconduct, according to ABC7.
The 72-year-old Oscar -winning Producer has consistently denied any wrongdoing, asserting that any and all sexual encounters were entirely consensual.
Most recently, Weinstein publicly showed up to court in a wheelchair and has requested to remain in custody and receive the necessary medical treatment at Rikers.
