The family of a retired FBI agent who was shot and killed by a Texas school officer is demanding to see body camera footage of the incident, according to a report.
Marco Cordero, the brother of former FBI agent Julio Cordero, said he always feared this would happen.
Julio was fatally shot by an El Paso Independent School District police officer outside the Franklin High School campus on August 22.
The family told KFOX14 that the officer involved was only equipped with a gun.
"Why the hell didn't you use non-lethal weapons to control him?" Marco questioned.
"A taser puts Julio on the floor."
And though the family doesn't blame the officer but rather blames the circumstances, they are demanding one thing, and that's the footage of what transpired that day, the outlet reported.
"That's what I'm asking for: transparency. Let me see it or someone that we designate see the video," added Marco.
Julio was reportedly outside the Franklin High School campus on the morning of August 22, throwing rocks at the school's windows.
"Odd behavior by Julio was not uncommon. When I said what I said-that we did everything we could to protect him-it's true. We tried to protect him," his brother said.
His family told the media outlet Julio struggled with mental health issues after a car accident as a teenager that claimed the life of his sister, followed by another traumatizing accident in adulthood.
After a man reportedly jumped in front of Julio's car, causing the person's face to smash into the glass windshield, the family noticed Julio would oftentimes find himself in a manic state, breaking glass.
"It's very possible that he was tormented by the breakage of the windshield, that he was trying to get a different sound of the glass breaking to supplant what he heard on that day," he further explained.
As for the officer who is allegedly responsible for Julio's death, the family said they're "praying for that man and strongly urge him to get the necessary counseling because it's ok to be weak. It's ok to ask for help."
The investigation remains ongoing.
