A father in Tennessee has admitted to beating his wife to death after telling their children she had left home due to a terminal illness.

On Wednesday, Joseph Glynn pleaded guilty to a charge of first-degree murder and was sentenced to life in prison, reported The Tennessean.

Glynn, 70, assaulted his wife, Jackie Glynn, 76, using a hammer to bash her head in on January 1, according to the Nashville Police Department.

Glynn allegedly drove her body to DeKalb County the following day and buried her.

The 70-year-old father later told his children that their mother was terminally ill and had to leave home; however, her medical provider has since refuted that claim.

Police previously disclosed that Jackie's body and car were found in separate locations in DeKalb County in the days after she went missing.

In an interview, Glynn admitted to authorities that he had killed Jackie before disposing of her body.

WTVF revealed Jackie's son, Chad Folk, spoke at Joseph's hearing on Wednesday:

"I was told my mother left and had been ill for a long time, and it was her will that they didn't follow her," said Folk, who mentioned that his daughters doubted that their grandmother would have left without telling anyone.

"My oldest daughter, through tears, said, 'Yaya wouldn't do that. She loved us too much,'" he expressed to the court.

"'She would never leave us. Something has happened to Yaya. Dad, you have to find her.'"
