One of the Minnesota cops involved in the now-infamous killing of George Floyd has received a surge of online support via a fundraising platform created by his family to help him "begin to rebuild his life".

Former police officer Thomas Lane is seeing the rush of online support following his release from federal prison Tuesday.

Lane's family created a GiveSendGo campaign to support the former cop amid his release and return to the free world.

GiveSendGo gives you the option of donating funds to the campaign, sharing the campaign across several social media platforms, and sending a prayer.

Lane, 41, completed the federal portion of his prison time in April but remained in custody to satisfy his state sentence in Hennepin County District Court for aiding and abetting second-degree manslaughter, according to The Minnesota Star Tribune.

He is the first of the four officers convicted of killing George Floyd in May 2020 to be released from prison.

In July 2022, a federal judge sentenced Lane to 2 and a half years in prison in the federal civil rights case linked to the killing of Floyd.

Lane was found liable for the murder after he held Floyd's legs as officer Derek Chauvin knelt on his neck for 9 minutes and 29 seconds.

His family, however, does not see it the same way.

The campaign details Lane's experience differently, arguing Lane followed "to the letter" the police training he received from MPD just days prior but was terminated and charged with aiding and abetting second-degree murder and manslaughter a week later.

The page goes on to call Lane a passionate officer who loved his new job and only wanted to give back to Minnesota, "the state he's always called home."

After four years with no income, he and his family are asking for support to help welcome him home and allow him to rebuild his life, as many online supporters flock to the site to do just that.
