Wade Wilson's ex-girlfriend is looking forward to witnessing his execution as a Florida judge mulls over the death penalty for the tattooed double murderer.
Wilson, 30, will learn his fate Tuesday, for the 2019 fatal strangulations of Cape Coral, Florida women Kristine Melton, 35, and Diane Ruiz, 43.
The overwhelming majority of the 12-person jury recommended the death penalty for each of the slayings during his trial in June, but the decision to honor the jury's recommendation or to instead sentence Wilson to life in prison without the possibility of parole ultimately rests in the hands of Lee County Circuit Court Judge Nicholas Thompson.
"I 100 percent think he deserves to die," Wilson's former girlfriend, Kelly Matthews, told HNGN in an interview last month.
Matthews, 32, and Wilson were previously involved in a 6-month-long, whirlwind romance after meeting on the Plenty of Fish dating app in September 2018.
It was his charisma, charm and striking good looks that made her fall for the would-be killer.
"He was tall, 6-foot-4, and had nice teeth and dimples and tattoos," recalled Matthews.
But their relationship soured six months later and Wilson turned into a "psychopath."
"He wasn't violent till the end," she explained. "He had some mental abuse stuff where he would yell and throw stuff, but he didn't put his hands on me till February 2019. He just reached over and started strangling me and biting my face. He choked me, punched me, raped me. He held a knife to my neck."
Matthews ended things with Wilson. She filed a police report, only for her domestic violence allegations to get dismissed, she claimed.
Eight months later, Wilson murdered Melton and Ruiz.
"Had the police done their jobs in my case, he would have been in prison," Matthews said, noting she believed the women would still be alive. "But they blew it off and didn't pursue him and just let him walk."
Now, Matthews is hoping justice will be served in the form of Wilson's execution.
"You'll get what you deserve," she vowed in a message directed to her ex. "And, I'll be there."
