The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office has identified Toby Shane Kessler as the suspect in the break-in at former President Donald Trump's campaign office in Ashburn, Virginia.
The 39-year-old man, who does not have a permanent address, is now wanted for burglary with intent to commit larceny, assault, and other felony charges.
On Sunday, Loudoun County officials received a call at around 9 p.m. EDT regarding a burglary at the office.
The break-in occurred at the office located in Ashbrook Place, which is currently leased by the Trump campaign and serves as the headquarters for the Virginia 10th District Republican Committee, the sheriff's office said in a news release.
Trump's Virginia Campaign Office Break-in
CNN reported that authorities believe Kessler entered through a back door and left shortly after. It is unclear what, if anything, was stolen.
On Wednesday, the sheriff's office released surveillance footage showing Kessler inside the office, wearing dark clothing and a cap as well as carrying a backpack. They are asking for the public's help in locating him.
The sheriff's office said it is working with other law enforcement agencies to locate Kessler. A description of the suspect stated that Kessler is a Caucasian adult male and described his clothing as he entered the Trump campaign office.
According to the press release, Kessler has a history of criminal offenses and has been in the Washington metropolitan area for at least a few years. His driver's license is from California. Kessler's last known address was in San Francisco.
Online court records show that Kessler was arrested in 2020 by Arlington County police on charges of being a fugitive felon. The suspect was also arrested last month for failing to appear in court.
Kessler has a record of misdemeanor criminal offenses, which include charges of second-degree assault, resisting arrest, and disorderly behavior in Prince George's County, Maryland. In the same year, he was charged with loitering in Brevard County, Florida.
In 2020, Kessler was charged with public intoxication on a beach in Virginia. Last month, he was charged with entering and damaging a property in Fairfax County.
Loudoun Sheriff's Office spokesperson Thomas Julia said law enforcement's priority is to locate Kessler.
Meanwhile, a Trump campaign spokesperson stated that the issue is currently being investigated, directing a reporter to the sheriff's office, the Washington Post reported.
Trump Confirms 2024 Campaign Cyberattack
In a related incident, Trump recently confirmed that Iranian cyber agents hacked his 2024 campaign. This comes after a similar unsuccessful hacking attempt that targeted the Kamala Harris campaign, according to USA Today.
The FBI is investigating these cyberattacks, adding to concerns about foreign influence in the U.S. elections.
