The perpetrators employed various tactics to evade detection, including renting dozens of mailboxes across Southern California to receive counterfeit devices from China and genuine devices from Apple. Clever manipulation of mailing addresses and using aliases at Apple stores further obscured their activities. This meticulous orchestration allowed them to visit up to 10 Apple stores daily, returning imitation devices and collecting genuine ones.

With Apple defrauded at least $12.3 million, the individuals' legal consequences are severe. Each faces up to 20 years imprisonment for the mail and wire fraud charges, a minimum two-year mandatory term for aggravated identity theft, and up to 10 years for the conspiracy to traffic counterfeit goods.
