In a surprising disclosure, high-ranking White House Deputy National Security Adviser Jon Finer declined to affirm in an interview with 'Meet the Press' whether Israel is obeying international law. This follows the Israeli raid into Gaza's primary hospital, Al-Shifa.

In a subsequent raid by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) on Al-Shifa Hospital last week, hundreds of staff and patients, including many premature infants, were forced to leave the facility. The World Health Organization (WHO) has labeled the hospital as a "death zone" due to insufficient fuel to operate its incubators. IDF defends its actions by asserting that Hamas had established a command center beneath the hospital.

This situation occurs in the context of an ongoing crisis, with the United Nations Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA) stating that since Hamas' attack on Israel began on October 7, more than 1.6 million people in Gaza have been displaced.

Unsettled Allegations and a Tight-Lipped Administration

Upon being asked by the 'Meet the Press' host Kristen Welker whether the White House endorses Israel's claim of a Hamas base under the hospital and Israel's adherence to international law, Finer commented, "When we see things that concern us, we raise them."

Finer's remarks insinuated that the White House acknowledged the excessive utilization of Al-Shifa by Hamas for planning and executing terrorist attacks. Still, he unequivocally did not imply that Israel should strike the hospital. Yet, when asked again about the confidence in Israel following international law, Finer evaded the question outright.

Finer's refusal to comment drew attention and sparked conjectures regarding President Joe Biden's dropping approval ratings. The recent NBC News poll reflects the growing majority of U.S. voters disapproving of Biden's international policy and handling of the escalating Israel-Hamas interplay.

Legal Help's Significance Amidst International Crisis

This debacle underscores the importance of expert legal aid in such multifaceted international crises. Professionals well-versed in international law and human rights can provide guidance to prevent humanitarian crises.

Governments, including the U.S. and Israel, must adhere to international laws concerning armed conflict, as emphasized by Finer. With the application of expert legal counsel, such adherence could be more effectively ensured to prevent further human suffering and loss. Expert legal advice can also provide an unbiased, real-time analysis of the actions taken by countries implicated in a conflict, ensuring all parties involved operate within the boundaries of international law.

The Current Crisis Paints a Grim Picture of People's Suffering and Displacement

As the mystery remains over Israel's adherence to international law, one thing remains certain - the need for impartial, expert legal consultation. International severe crises, such as the escalating Israel-Hamas conflict, necessitate professional advice from those with comprehensive expertise in international law and human rights. In doing so, the appropriate response can be carefully reviewed, leading to conflict resolution and the prevention of additional human suffering.

If you're a government, NGO, or any other affected party, seeking a knowledgeable legal expert can provide insights into navigating the complex web of legal expectations and obligations. Professionals can help bridge the gaps, giving guidance to maintain standards set under international law.
