Malaysia order Attorney general to look into legal implications of missing plane

By

An official in Kuala Lumpur had said on Friday that the Malaysia government is officially looking into the legal implications of the tragic Malaysia Airline Flight 370. Xinhua News Agency had said that the country's Attorney General will also look into the possibility of financial claims sought for the loss of the families of the 239 passengers aboard the aircraft. The Chinese news outlet said the government have decided to issue such order as to prepare the country and the airline with all legal repercussions that they could be facing.

Malaysian acting Transport Minister Hihammuddin Hussein was quoted as saying, "From the part of the Malaysian government, we have decided that the Attorney General's department will look at all the legal implications in addition to other steps on the way forward."

On the other hand, Xinhua News have also said that the airline has already been consulting their own legal team to guide them should the likelihood of providing financial compensation is demanded by the survivors of the Boeing 777 flight passengers.

In a response to questions at a media briefing, Malaysia Airlines Chief Executive Officer Ahmad Jauhari Yahya had said, "We are obviously talking to various legal parties and also the families on this. So far what we have been requested, especially for the family members, is to identify the evidence affirmatively. That means they are still looking for evidence of the aircraft, so that is why search operations have been focused on."

When asked about the seemingly slow response of the Malaysian government of the aircraft that was formerly missing, Hussein rejected the claims and said that the government has done everything that they can and he does not see that it will do things differently otherwise. Moreover, he also added that the government has been very thorough with the search and explored all speculations that would lead them to the missing plane.

Hussein also said that it was important for the Malaysian government to make sure that the updates they provide, especially to the families of the passengers, were accurate so as not to add on to their grief. "I fully understand as I also have family. But I just want to say to the Chinese families that it's not just them that lost or are looking for family members. Malaysians have also lost family members along with 14 other nations and it is important to them not to listen to all speculative information that will make emotions even higher. At the same time from the Malaysian government's side we will together with the Chinese authorities continue to engage them," he added.
