Kevin Love of the Cleveland Cavaliers has been having a stellar 2nd season playing alongside LeBron James and Kyrie Irving. But just when the stretch four is finally getting comfortable playing with two superstars, tragedy happens when a knee injury will force Kevin Love to miss 6 weeks due to surgery.
ESPN reports that Kevin Love had an arthroscopic surgery on his left knee to relieve the swelling and pain. If the power forward does return in six weeks as scheduled, he will have about two more weeks of regular season to get comfortable with his team again which took him 2 seasons to adapt a new role under Lebron and Kyrie. The surgery required the removal of a loose body from the knee.
Kevin Love joins the Cleveland Cavalier's injured list of players. J.R Smith is currently recovering from thumb surgery while Chris "Birdman" Anderson and Mo Williams who both had knee surgeries this season which prompted general manager David Griffin to trade both players to free up space.
Meanwhile, it has been reported by WABC-TV that Cavalier head coach Tyronn Lue knew about the injury but still decided to play Kevin Love in at least three games before deciding to put him out of the line up. One of those games was the second night of a back-to-back against the Oklahoma City Thunder which garnered a lot of criticism for the head coach. It was initially reported that Lue would let his three superstars rest for the night but then decided to change his mind and play come game time.
Lue however told reporters that the Thunder game didn't do anything to aggravate Kevin Love's injured knee who had 15 points, 12 rebounds and three steals in 31 minutes in that game. He added that Love was already headed for surgery but played through the injury.
With Kevin Love gone, the Cleveland Cavaliers lost one of their main weapons which will certainly affect the team's overall performance. LeBron James however assured everyone that they will be ok saying injuries are part of the game.
