The resignation of Michael Flynn from the White House Security Advisor has prompted different reaction from the public. However, his resignation is the best course for the President Trump administration.
His decision to meet Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak and misled Vice President Mike Pence about the nature of conversation has made him vulnerable to political blackmail according to CNN.
Flynn met the Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak on Dec. 29. He was suspected to talk about the planned sanctions against Russia for alleged interference in U.S. presidential election. Furthermore, he lied about the conversation to Vice President Pence, who found out about the fact of him being misled on Thursday, Feb. 9.
Justice Department official, acting attorney general Sally Q. Yates had advised President Trump on Jan. 26 regarding concern about Flynn’s conduct as reported by Washington Post. Upon hearing the news, The President did not immediately take decision. Some officials reported that President Trump wanted to keep Flynn, but after serious consideration, the best decision for the White House is to have Flynn resign.
Different response from the public arise following his resignation. Many consider his action to warn the Russian regarding the U.S. government under Obama administration retaliate action as the political leaks. While other think that his action is aimed to damage President Trump.
The retired U.S. Army Lieutenant General was the Director of the Defense Intelligence Agency under Obama for two years before he was replaced by David Shedd in 2014. Following his election victory, President Trump offered Flynn position as National Security advisor, which he accepted in December 2016.
However, Flynn has conducted many risky action which deemed to be harmful to President Trump administration. One of them is the meeting with Austrian political party that linked with Vladimir Putin government before he met Russian Ambassador Kislyak.
