A fraternity in the University of Missouri are accused of allegedly promoting the use of date rape drugs and teaching how to use them, to female students. The university officials are currently investigating over the allegations.
Delta Upsilon fraternity, has already been suspended for possible use of racial slurs against black student. On top of that, it is also being investigated over the allegations of serving alcohol to underage students, use of date rape drugs, and hazing pledges, the university spokeswoman told KTVI.
Assistant Vice Provost Ellen Eardley wrote, in a letter to the fraternity from the Office for Civil Rights and Title IX Assistant Vice Chancellor concerning the date rape drugs allegation. He said, "Active members of Delta Upsilon fraternity allegedly provided new members with three pills each and instructed them to drug women for the purpose of incapacitating them prior to engaging in sexual activity. It is alleged that new members are required to engage in such conduct in order to complete the initiation process."
Documents from police reports and the Department of Student Life, among other organizations, contain claims from young women who believe they were drugged. Members of the local fraternity declined to be interviewed.
One of the documented reports claimed that a female was found drunk without pants, in the Brooks Hall residential building, who allegedly smeared faeces on a wall. She admitted to drinking and partying at one of the fraternity "meetings". Adding to the claim, her friends said she was not acting normal and believe she may have been victimized by the use of date rape drugs.
There are also accusations of hazing apart from the allegations of using date rape drugs. A male from Delta Upsilon was found in Lathrop hall with a bloody hand. The male who didn't want to talk about it said, "They made us fight each other," according to Fox News.
Delta Upsilon's national office released a statement concerning the university documents, saying the fraternity is deeply concerned and that no such alleged activities, especially the use of date rape drugs, will be condoned or tolerated. Meanwhile, findings of the investigation suggest that the fraternity will likely lose its' recognition from the University of Missouri university and close down soon.
