Doctors were shocked to discover a live cockroach inside a woman's skull in India. An eccentric medical procedures were performed on Selvi, to remove the insect that was sitting in the skull base between her eyes.
According to The New Indian Express, The 42-year-old domestic helper woke up in the middle of the night due to a "crawling sensation" in her right nostril which became a "burning" feeling in her head. Selvi went to several hospitals to be examined, but none detected the cause of her unease.
She was then advised to go to the Stanley Medical College Hospital, where baffled doctors used a nasal endoscopy to find a cockroach "sitting in the skull base between her eyes". Despite using clamps and a sucker to get it out, the insect was miraculously taken out alive during the medical procedure.
The doctors explained that the cockroach would have died, causing an infection close to her brain if Selvi had ignored the scratchy sensation. Dr M.N. Shankar, the head of the ENT Department in Stanley Medical College Hospital, was one among the doctors who performed the medical procedure on her.
He mentioned that the medics took 45 minutes to pull out the cockroach from the woman's skull during the medical procedure. They initially tried to use medical vacuum to suck out the insect, but it was too big to fit in. Forceps were then used to stick the insect out of Selvi's skull, according to World Breaking News.
Dr Shankar revealed that their team was relieved after the cockroach was removed, as it may have caused fatal infection for Selvi if she ignored it. Meanwhile, a video that captured the eccentric medical procedure is being viewed all over the world, raising awareness to always stay safe.
