First Lady Melania Trump Refiles Libel Lawsuit of $1.5M Against Daily Mail

By

The corporation in charge of publishing the Daily Mail website has just been slammed again by Melania Trump as she re-filed a libel lawsuit against them. The lawsuit in New York is directed at the rumors published about the First Lady previously working as an escort.

The lawsuit was previously filed against Mail Media Inc in Maryland. However, a judge dismissed the case earlier this month and ruled that it should not have been filed in Maryland as reported by The Guardian. Now the lawsuit has been refiled in New York, seeking punitive and compensatory damages of the amount $150m.

The filing states that the First Lady had "the unique, one-in-a-lifetime opportunity, as an extremely famous and well-known person, as well as a former professional model, brand spokesperson and successful businesswoman, to launch a broad-based commercial brand in multiple product categories".

Additionally the filing goes to state that each of the product categories in question was capable of garnering "multi-million dollar business relationships" for a term longer than a year. It also oddly mentions how Mrs. Trump is "one of the most photographed women in the world."

Further analysis of the product categories states that these could have included jewelry, hair care, accessories, apparel, cosmetics as well as fragrance. The categories were not limited to the following.

The United States First Lady has not only sued the Daily Mail but also the 70-year old blogger Webster Tarpley for reporting the rumors that place her as a prior high-end escort. The lawsuit was filed in Maryland following the retractions issues by both the Daily Mail and Tarpley.

Even though the lawsuit against Daily Mail was dismissed, the lawsuit against Tarpley has received the go ahead to continue progressing in Maryland. The First Lady's lawyer, Charles Harder, has confirmed that Tarpley agreed to "pay her a substantial sum as a settlement".
