Stephen Curry Misses Point Blank Game Winning Layup in Match Against the Sacramento Kings

By

The Golden State Warriors currently hold the best record in the NBA, and are undoubtedly the team to beat this season. However, in Saturday night's game against the Sacramento Kings, the powerhouse team didn't look like itself as they were locked in a very close match against the 11th place Kings.

The Warriors were down by two points with less than two minutes left in the fourth quarter until Draymond Green was able to tie the game on a dunk with 57 seconds left. No one would be able to make a shot after that as Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson would both miss jumpers that would have given them the lead. Those misses, however, would not be the most painful ones of the night for the Warriors.

The Warriors found themselves down once more with a minute left in the extra period. Once again, Draymond Green was able to make a dunk to pull his team to within one (106-107) with 41 seconds to go. The Kings would miss a shot and give the Warriors a chance to take the lead with about seven seconds left in the game.

Coming out of a timeout, the Warriors ran a high screen for Stephen Curry that left him free for layup right at the ring. Anthony Toliver would scramble back to try and contest the shot but Curry was able to release it before Toliver could jump. However, the two-time MVP would brick they layup and the Kings would go on to take the victory 109-106.

When asked about the shot, Curry had this to say "Kind of rushed it. Saw Toliver coming over, but it didn't really affect it. I just missed it," as per ESPN. The Warriors had one last chance to tie the game with a straight away three from Draymond Green with two seconds left, but it was way off.

Curry finished with 35 points on 11-20 shooting while fellow MVP Kevin Durant only had 10 points on 10 shots (Full game stats and play-by-play on NBA.com). Warrior's coach, Steve Kerr, expressed his emotions towards his ejection from the game and their loss in a report by The Guardian as he said "We got what we deserved - before I was tossed and after. It was one of the worst games we played all season. We had no purpose. The ball didn't move. I didn't even recognize our team out there tonight. Maybe we were due for one."
