'84 Lumber' Super Bowl Ad Strikes Up Controversy

By

"The Entire Journey" is and ad by "84 Lumber" that is advertised during the halftime of Super Bowl 51. This is the first ever Super Bowl commercial from the company.

According to a report in Vox, "84 Lumber" wanted to air the longer version of the commercial. It showed of a mother and child from Mexico who went into a journey and ended up facing a wall. The daughter collected scraps of cloth along the way which she made into an American flag.

However, Fox has reportedly rejected the ad indicating that it was too politically inclined. Instead of airing the longer version that has been a 90-second ad, "84 Lumber" aired the shorter version that ended with "To be continued" and directed viewers to the company's website in order to view the original version.

In a report from Philly Voice, the original version of the ad ends with a quote that says "The will to succeed is always welcome here." Maggie Hardy Magerko, the owner and president of 84 Lumber shares that it is unclear why the ad has been censored. She adds that the ad is not pornographic nor is it racist or immoral.

The "84 Lumber's" website crashed for a while because of traffic. People wanted to get a glimpse of the original ad right after the shorter version was aired during Super Bowl's halftime. The company also posted the video on their Facebook page and garnered different reactions.

Meanwhile, Fox News reports that the ad was censored because of the ending. The end showed of the mother and daughter blocked by a wall at the US-Mexico border. The video does not indicate if the border wall is part of the wall that is already intact, but it is likely to symbolize the wall that President Donald Trump took executive action with.
