The world's biggest battery storage is completed. The facility recently opened its latest contribution to renewable energy. This is the largest lithium-ion battery storage the planet ever has.
This massive battery Storage facility is in the vast Ontario, California desert. The storage station consists of 396 Tesla power packs with a storage capacity of 80 megawatt-hours enabling it to supply power to 2,500 households in a day. It sits on a 1.5-acre land area. The largest battery storage facility in the world has 24 inverters.
The project is an alternative solution to a tragedy that occurred in the area last 2015. A Gas Company owned and operated by Sempra energy had a gas leak at Aliso Canyon. It was along LA's Porter Ranch area causing it to release methane by the thousands of tons and recently sealed off last February 2016.
Tesla got the contract to build the largest storage facility last September 2016 from South California Edison. Tesla completed the project by the end of December. The Tesla power packs are now connected with the Mira Loma substation, as reported by Inhabitat.
According to Fortune, the largest Power storage facility has similar power storage stations that will also launch its operations. These facilities built by Assisted Energy Services (AES) and Altagas, also in California, will ensure continuous power supply, avoiding blackouts and eliminate power spikes in the neighborhood. The Southern California Edison aims to have uninterrupted energy supply especially in times of disasters and be independent of fossil fuels in the future, as reported by Hybrid Cars.
These projects are wholly supported by Tesla CEO Elon Musk in Southern California Edison's thrust to make renewable energy in solar, wind, and water as applicable and within reach as possible. Musk emphasized that Tesla's part to fight the effects of climate change is through the application and utilization of renewable energy.
