Apple Releases AirPods 3.5.1 Firmware Update Addressing Minor Big Fixes

By

The infamous AirPods by Apple have received a new update already pushing them to firmware version 3.5.1. The difference between this update and the ones generally accompanied with iPhones and iPads is that it comes unaccompanied by any form of patch notes.

The lack of patch notes makes it comparatively problematic for users to figure out exactly what is being altered with the new update. The quiet update was not announced broadly and Apple Insider confirmed that an Apple contacts specified that the update comprised of "miscellaneous minor bug fixes".

The specifics were not discussed but in most cases minor upgrades handle small modifications and software fixes for the product. The Apple AirPods were announced in September 2016 alongside the iPhone 7 but Fortune confirms that its release was delayed until the final month of the year.

Despite the skeptics and the late release, the AirPods has been received with good reviews and better sales on the market. The Apple CEO, Tim Cook, boasted about them and stated that they got off to a "fantastic start" in an earnings call.

For users who are wondering how to acquire the update, the process is an automated one for most of you. In case you feel like confirming, a simple check of the AirPods' Settings menu will provide a display of the current firmware version.

In the case where the current version is not the latest, users need to connect the AirPods to their smartphones. Next, ensuring that the charging case is connected to a charger will automatically kick start that update without further ado.

Apple recently rolled out a "Find My AirPods" feature due to users' worries of misplacing their wireless headphones. The app enables users to locate the last known or current location of the headphones. New updates to narrow down the search to the location the specific location are underway.

There is no visible indications that the AirPods are updated or undergoing an update. Users will just need to manually check the firmware version in order to ensure that it has been applied. The update is aimed to quash out any bugs experienced while using the headphones.
