The Samsung Galaxy S8 is another one of those gadgets that holds the promise of a release this year. However, the long rumored assumption that Samsung would include an embedded fingerprint scanner in the screen are not so true.
According to Pocket Lint, the countless renders and images that have made an appearance on the web as of recently all share the same characteristic: no fingerprint scanner or physical front-mounted home button. All hope should not be lost because the schematics unveiled by CNET Korea suggest something similar for the yet entirely different.
The drawings display a mounted fingerprint sensor placed next to the rear camera. This is where Samsung expects users naturally have their fingers lying. On the contrast, this is actually dependant on the size of the phone and the user's hands.
Quoting a Samsung official, CNET Korea said, "The home button and fingerprint sensor will be on the right side of the camera lens when viewed from the front". They added, "The reason why it is on the right rather than the rear center is because most people hold their smartphone in their right hand and the right index finger touches this location".
Referring to the schematics in question, there are two different screen sizes displayed: 5.7 and 6.1 inches. Despite that, it is still widely considered that a Plus model will feature a bigger 6.2 inch screen. It is expected that Samsung will drop the moniker "Edge" from the phones seeing how are believed to sport curved edges.
CNET Korea moved to confirm that the Samsung Galaxy S8 will keep the 3.5mm headphone jack which comes as a relief after Apple removed the feature in its latest smartphone release. The gadget will also display "soft keys" on-screen for navigation around menus. For charging, the gadget will implement a USB Type-C port.
The Samsung Galaxy 8 release date has not been finalized and although the site stated the release to be at the end of February, multiple other dates have come up. March and even April are anticipated as possible release months.
