Google Android Nougat 7.1.2 is set to roll in the next two months. This is a bit of good news for Android smartphone users who have long waited for an upgrade.
However, while some of the newest Android phone models are getting their upgrade, the Google Nexus 6 and 9 will not get upgraded. Both phones will still be getting security patches. The initial version of the firmware is already being rolled out to non-Google manufactured phones. Currently, Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge users worldwide are getting the update. India is one of the countries getting the update.
In an article that appeared in Tech Republic, Google revealed that Android Nougat is loaded with features that can make all compatible Android phones to be more competitive in the business world. One of the features that will come with the update is Android for Work, an app that allows users to switch on and off their work apps and notifications to enhance work, life balance. Nougat will also include direct boot that will allow the user to see important notifications right away after booting. It will also come with capabilities such as file-based encryption and enhanced financial recognition.
In addition, Nougat will also include Data Saver, which prevents mobile applications from utilizing cellular data plan while running in the background. Doze on The Go will save battery use while moving. According to the website of Tech Crunch, the most obvious change in Nougat is the notification system which is now much closer to Google's material design guidelines. Likewise, it allows users to take an action from the notification bar.
Finally, Nougat will allow users to see two apps side-by-side or on top of each other. A similar feature was already enabled by Samsung but this is a first for Google.
