Starbucks Hiring Efforts Reach Out to Military, Refugees and Youth

Starbuck will be hiring 10,000 refugees in 75 different countries around the world, in order to develop its vision to meaningful employment for veterans, opportunity youth and military spouses. The plan to hire refugees is based on its business locations over the next five years.

Around 8,800 veterans and military spouses were hired towards achieving their five year goal to reach 10,000 by 2018. Starting off in 2013 they established relationships with more than 200 military bases across the world, the company has also attended more than 500 military hiring fairs and sponsored 14 hiring summits.

According to Starbucks, they operate 32 Military Family Stores near major military bases. They have also provided special designations by supporting military communities around the country by welcoming aboard dedicated military recruiters. The initiative is to help veterans reconnect with their communities.

Military Service Pay has been offered to eligible employees with 80 hours of pay each year, with other benefits like Military Allowance for those who are called to active duty Starbucks seems to be getting closer to their goal much before 2018.

The Starbucks Armed Forces Network serves as an additional layer of support for veterans, veteran spouses and any Starbucks partner supporting veterans. The Armed Forces Network is an internal group with more than 14 chapters across the country.

On the other hand their goal for hiring 10,000 youth neither employed or is school has already been accomplished. Starbucks have joined with almost 50 U.S companies to form the 100,000 Opportunities Initiative. Along with this initiative Starbucks have opened four stores with classroom and training space in order to support local economic development.

The benefits of these stores are that it creates 20 to 25 new jobs, these stores are located in Ferguson, Phoenix, Jamaica and the Englewood neighborhood in Chicago. Starbuck hiring efforts to reach out to military, refugees and youth have already tasted its start to success.
