Apple Watch Sales Breaks Records, No Specifics On Units Sold

By

Apple just reported their earnings for the first fiscal quarter of 2017 which includes the holiday season. CEO Tim Cook was pleased with the earnings saying sales were good including the often ignored Apple Watch.

However specific numbers for Apple Watch sales weren't disclosed. The CEO did say that the Apple Watch set records in both units and revenue according to a report from appleinsider.

According to the CEO the demand for Apple products were so strong that the company wasn't able to meet it. He added that in the wearables category, Apple Watch has the highest customer service by a wide margin.

But without giving the specific details behind the sales, Tim Cook's statements should be taken with a grain of salt. When it comes to announcing sales from the Apple Watch, Apple combines its sales with their "Other Products" to make sales look impressive. These "Other Products" include the Apple TV, Beats products, iPod and other accessories.

This could also mean that the even if the Apple Watch sold more than 1 unit, the CEO statement would hold true. Saying the device broke records without giving the specifics may just be a way to make the sale sound impressive even it actually isn't.

Nonetheless, Apple still had a record quarter which is driven by the record breaking sales of the iPhone 7. According to The Verge, Apple took in $78.4 billion in revenue which exceeded the expectations of analysts. And since the iPhone is responsible for two thirds of Apple's total sales, the last quarter was also the biggest for the tech company.

The introduction of the iPhone 7 actually broke Apple's slump of declining sales. After 10 years of reporting record breaking sales, the company has seen a decrease in revenue for three straight quarters. If it weren't for the iPhone 7, Apple would have experienced a whole year of losses in revenue.

Apple may need to introduce something new other than a new iPhone or a new Apple Watch to keep the momentum going. If only Steve Jobs was still around, then maybe the company would have another hit.
