While everyone knows that Jason Momoa will play the role of the half-human half-Atlantean superhero Aquaman, there has been a great anticipation as to who will play the role of Black Manta. According to an article in The Hollywood Reporter, Director James Wan and Warner Bros have been frantically searching for the actor who will play Aquaman's nemesis.
Finally, after a thorough search, the studio has settled on Get Down star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II to play the role of Black Manta, a ruthless treasure hunter and mercenary hired to get a sample of Arthur Curry's blood. ' Abdul Mateen beat the likes of Trevante Rhodes and Corey Hawkins for the role.
Aside from Abdul Mateen and Momoa, Entertainment.ie revealed the other cast members of Aquaman. Amber Heard stars as Mera, Queen of Atlantis. Patrick Wilson as ORM, Aquaman's super villain half-brother. Nicole Kidman is also reportedly included in the cat where she plays the role of Atlanna, Aquaman's mother. Wilhem Dafoe is also in the cast as Dr. Vulko, Aquaman's advisor.
Shooting for the movie starts April in Australia and the expected playdate is in October 2018. Aquaman is the next movie to be shown in the calendar of Warner Bros. Aquaman had a cameo role in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. He will also be part of upcoming Justice League movies.
According to Business Insider, Jason Momoa have also sealed other roles aside from Aquaman. He was a finalist to play the role of Lando Calrissian in the Stars Wars film about Han Solo and will also appear in Baywatch together with Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron. He is also slated to appear in Fox's musical biopic 'The Greatest Showman on Earth.'
