NBA News: Atlanta Hawks Stun New York Knicks Amid Lee’s Monumental 3-Pointer

By

After a rare quadruple overtime, the thriller game between Atlanta Hawks and New York Knicks ended up with a jaw-dropping score of 142-139. DespiteCourtney Lee's monumental three-pointer and Jenning's mammoth performance, the Knicks wasn't able to dominate the Hawks led by Millsap.

Carmelo Anthony's power play pushed through the game, as he was able to lead his team to a historic quadruple overtime - the second in history of Knicks, having the last one happened in 1951. However, it wasn't enough Millsap wouldn't let it slide as to lose on their home court, Sporting News reports.

The first overtime was made thanks to Anthony's layup, as he was able to get past Paul Millsap during towards the end of the fourth quarter. And during the first overtime, the Hawks almost concluded the game with Schroder's layup with 22.2 seconds remaining in the clock, having the score of 113-111. But Anthony's clutch fading jumper tied the game to 113-113 leading to the second overtime.

Down with a score of 123-120 to the Hawks advantage, the Knicks found themselves on the edge once again. To make things worse, Anthony was fouled out which made a void for the team's performance. However, Courtney Lee stepped up his play with a monumental three-pointer within the last 12.9 seconds of the game, taking another chance to win towards the third overtime.

During the third overtime, it seems that the Knicks might actually be able to pull it off, until Schroder made a tying layup before the clock hits three seconds remaining. Lee tried to make another three-pointer but missed, resulting to the fourth overtime.

Now, only Brandon Jennings is left among the starters of Knicks. Anthony, Portzingis, and Noah was already fouled out towards the game, while Rose suffers yet another sprained ankle. The Knicks was able to tie the game to 139-139 with 1:14 left on the clock. Paul Millsap scored a layup ending the game with 142-139, as Lee missed the last shot which ended the quadruple overtime, ESPN reports.

Despite Anthony's season-high 45 points, Lee's monumental three-pointer, and Jennings' mammoth game of 53 minutes, they were unable to dominate the Hawks. They will be facing Wizards on Wednesday, most likely with a better outset for the next game.
