Man Charged With Human Trafficking in Newark

The recent incident in Newark took the news when a man was charged with human trafficking in Licking County Common Pleas Court on Thursday. It is the first human trafficking case in Licking County.

The 28-year-old criminal Alex L. Sapp is facing charges of compelling prostitution, a first-degree felony and domestic violence a third-degree felony. Sapp had been physically abusing the victim for nearly two weeks as per Newark Advocate.

According to reports, the couple was living together in Newark, the victim explained that Sapp allegedly forced her to perform sex acts with random men for money. When the victim refused to comply she was beaten up badly by the criminal.

Sapp had also beaten her and thrown her against the steps leaving her with visible bruises all over her body as per the court records. The criminal was initially charged with domestic violence but after further review, he was also charged with human trafficking and prostitution.

The criminal also has two prior convictions for domestic violence in Licking County, if he is convicted on all charges he will face 17 years in prison. After the initial arrest, the criminal contacted the advocate and stated that he was being harassed by the prosecutor's office.

Human trafficking has been increasing recently in many places. In November last year, two New York men were charged with Human Trafficking they were arrested for allegedly forcing employees to work for them at a chicken slaughter house in Middlesex County as per the United States Attorney's Office.

As for the recent incident in Newark, it is reported that Sapp posted a $75,000 bond and he will receive a summons to appear for an initial hearing on the indictment on Feb. 14. Sapp was arrested on Jan. 13 after he was reported to the police by the victim.
