Giant touch screens are becoming a trend in many industries. Microsoft has capitalized on this situation with its release of the Surface Hub line of giant monitors. PC manufacturer Dell is poised to challenge Microsoft with the launch of its own line of giant touchscreens.
As reported on The Verge, Dell has recently announced two 4K Interactive Touch Monitors measuring 55-inch and 88-inch respectively. The company is setting its sight on targeting the education and business sectors. The launch of the two giant monitors follows the launch of a 70-inch Interactive Conference Room Monitor last year.
Unlike the Microsoft Surface Hub which are full-pledged PCs, the two Dell giant monitors does not have built-in PCs. However, they have several ports. In fact, you can even connect a Dell OptiPlex micro desktop without connecting a separate power cord.
In an article that appeared in Hot Hardware, both the Dell 55 and Dell 86 will come with a 4k display resolution. The two giant screens are heavy on collaboration features and will come with 20 touch points allowing multiple people to simultaneously use the device.
Aside from that the two giant monitors will include Dell's InGlass technology which gives users a natural writing experience using the two included passive styluses. For enhanced visibility, the monitor will come with an anti-glare and anti-smudge glass. Both touch screens features multiple HDMI, VGA, and USB 3.0 ports.
The business and education sector have the option to purchase the Dell Wireless Module, which costs $199.99. This will allow wireless connection to the displays even without internet access. The website of Windows Central revealed that the 55-inch and 86-inch touch screens will become available on March 30. They will be much cheaper than the 55-inch and 84-inch Surface Hubs. The Dell 55 and Dell 86 will cost $5,000 and $11,000, respectively.
