Owen Wilson News & Updates: ‘Cars 3’ Star Announced As Daytona 500’s Grand Marshall

By

Owen Wilson will be playing a new role at one of the most prestigious events in NASCAR this year. The "Cars 3" star has been announced as Daytona 500's 59th annual celebration next month, Feb. 26 at Daytona International Speedway.

As the Grand Marshall on the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series, Wilson will deliver the most iconic line prompting all race car drivers to start their engines' line before the race starts, reports Entertainment Weekly. The "Wedding Crashers" actor is also set to ride in one of the Grand Marshal cars before the green flag of the 200 lap, 500-mile race and will also attend the drivers' meeting.

Meanwhile, the trailer for Owen's upcoming movie "Cars 3" has been released with a tagline that says everything will change. According to Forbes, the trailer shows the movie's protagonist Lightning McQueen voiced as Owen Wilson getting into a horrific accident which has shocked most of the fans who has seen the movie teaser.

The report also explained that the trailer is considered a marketing play for "Cars 3" which seemed to be effective since it has gotten into the curious minds of the fans since the trailer is a lot more different and unusual for a kid-targeted movie. The same marketing play was done in the "Pirates of the Carribean: Dead Men Tell No Tales" trailer which did not have Jack Sparrow's appearance, portrayed by Johnny Depp.

The movie is also set to show McQueen facing his mortality, stuck between his age and his passion for racing as new technology dominates car racing. "Cars 3" will focus on how McQueen prepares for a race tournament where he competes with a new movie antagonist which will be a relief for his fans as confirmation that he will not die in the movie.

"Cars 3" will hit the movie theaters this summer, June 16.
