WWE News: John Cena Guns For 16th Championship Belt Against AJ Styles at Royal Rumble 2017

By

John Cena has long been considered as the face of the World Wrestling Entertainment. At the Royal Rumble, he attempts to solidify that status as he faces AJ Styles at the Royal Rumble on January 29.

Known as the "Doctor of Thuganomics" in the wrestling world, Cena attempts to match the record of "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair. A win by Cena at the annual pay-per-view event will make him co-equal with Flair with his 16th title reign.

As reported in the website of Bleacher Report, the debut of Styles in last year's Royal Rumble electrified the WWE. He took the company by storm. The match between Cena and Styles resembles one that is "present vs future."

According to an article that appeared in Fansided, this is the third time that the two will meet in a pay-per-view event. Cena and Styles had their first match during the Money in the Bank and their second match was during Summer Slam. The match was setup during the last edition of Smackdown when Styles retained the WWE Championship beating Dolph Ziggler and Baron Corbin.

The encounter between the two most popular figures in wrestling will take place at the Alamodome. AJ Styles would want to beat the Face That Runs The Place and deny him of that historic 16th title. Like their previous pay-per-view encounters, the Royal Rumble encounter between Cena and Styles is expected to delight the people who will be watching the match.

The WWE Championship match between Styles and Cena is just one of the many matches scheduled for the Royal Rumble. Aside from the traditional 30-man Royal Rumble, Kevin Owens will defend his Universal Championship against Roman Reigns. As the website of Daily DDT would put it, the clash between Styles and Cena is a Match of the Year contender.
