Dr. Martin Luther King was an iconic leader not just for a single speech that he gave but for what he embodied and strove for. That is why, even today, people still commemorate his memory and strive to reach his 'dream'. Professional Athletes are just some of the people that take to social media to honor the late Dr. King, and they also take the opportunity to show their support with their sneakers.
According to Nike News, various Nike Basketball and Jordan Brand Athletes will pay tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King JR with all-black player exclusive sneakers. Nike Basketball will showcase the all-black LeBron 14, KD 9, Kyrie 3, PG 1, Kobe A.D., Soldier 10, Hyerdunk, Audacity, Zoom Rev, and Zoom Live. Jordan Brand will showcase the all-black AJXXXI, CP3.X, Extra.Fly, M13, and Super.Fly 5 PO.
However, Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors decided to take the opportunity to honor a different leader on that day. In a post before the game, Curry tweeted a picture of the shoes he would be wearing for the game with the caption "Honoring our President Barack Obama today on the court! He embodies the inspiration, faith & hope Dr. King stood for! We R Forever Grateful! #44"- @StephenCurry30 on Twitter.
The colors of the custom Curry 3s represent the colors of the United States of America with a dominant blue upper, white midsole with black trim and a translucent red sole. The Presidential Seal can be found on the tongue of the sneaker while Obama's signature can be seen through the translucent sole. The words "back2back" can also be found on a patch in the middle of the sole which indicates Obama's back-to-back terms from 2009 to 2017. Obama is an avid NBA fan and although he is a Bulls fan, he is sure to appreciate Curry and Under Armour's gesture and even cop himself a pair.
