A Tesla driver has just learned a new life lesson not to leave his car keys at home. The driver got stranded in Red Rock Canyon near Las Vegas, when his cars keyless control app malfunctioned in the middle of the dessert on Saturday morning, January 14.
Ryan Negri decided to leave his car keys at home when he left and drove around Red Rock Canyon, determined that he does not need them. Negri's Tesla Model S lets him control and monitor his car using a smartphone application, but it somehow stopped working while he was in the dessert, according to Telegraph.
The Tesla vehicle is supported by a keyless smartphone feature available to iOS and Android users. The application also lets vehicle owners to unlock and drive their car virtually through the app, without using the cars' key.
Negri had to get out of his Tesla Model S to adjust something outside his car and found out that he was locked out of his own vehicle, unable to get in. He did not notice until then that he has lost cell signal which is needed to use the keyless control application. Losing signal to run the application will leave Tesla Model S drivers unable to unlock and start their cars.
According to Tech Times, Negri shared a photo of his Tesla Model S on Instagram stating that he got stuck 6 miles from home without cell service and unable to get in his car. He also said that his wife needed to walk 2 miles from their location to have cell service and call a friend to get their key fob at home. Negri also said that he will never leave his car keys at home again when driving his vehicle.
Negri also suggested that Tesla should also have a backup plan during such events to help car owners have access to the keyless application in case cell services start acting up.
