Russell Westbrook continued his stellar season on Wednesday night with another triple-double. The Oklahoma City Thunder defeated the visiting Memphis Grizzlies, 103-95, at the Chesapeake Energy Arena.
Westbrook notched a triple-double in the win, which was his 18th of the season. He scored 24 points, grabbed 13 rebounds and registered 12 assists. Enes Kanter came up big off the bench with 19 points, 13 rebounds and three assists, per NBA.com.
On the other hand, Mike Conley was the leading scorer for the Grizzlies with 22 points while Chandler Parsons managed to put up 14 points in 18 minutes. Marc Gasol, who is playing the best basketball of his career, only scored nine points but managed to grab seven rebounds and get seven assists.
The amazing part of it was Westbrook already matches his triple-double count from last season in exactly half the games. According to FOX Sports, the game against the Grizzlies was the Thunder's 40th and Westbrook got his 18th triple-double last season in 80 games.
"He impacts the game in a lot of different ways, and I think tonight is a perfect example of that. Whether or not he's making or missing shots, it doesn't really make a difference. He can get his fingerprints onto the game. I thought he was really, really good," Thunder coach Billy Donovan told ESPN.
Westbrook was looking to have a great game since his last game against Memphis did not end well. He played his worst game of the season since he got zero assists and turned over the ball five times. He also got ejected as the Thunder suffered a humiliating 34-point loss.
The 28-year-old point guard is still averaging a triple-double at 31.2 points, 10.6 rebounds and 10.4 assists per game. The Thunder visits the Minnesota Timberwolves at the Target Center on Friday, January 13 for their next game. The two teams last met on Christmas Day with OKC getting the win.
