With ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ heralded as a box-office record holder, its follow-up movie remains in post-production and director Rian Johnson is more than happy to confirm several details about the sequel. The ‘Looper’ director recently opened up about a number of ‘Star Wars: Episode VIII’ spoilers, saying that his work on this highly-anticipated movie “felt resonant and meaningful.”

Prior to ‘Star Wars’ actress Carrie Fisher’s death, Johnson already dropped several hints of what is to come in the next film.

First, the helmer sought to offer a fun experience as opposed to a gloomy middle movie in the latest trilogy.

“I want it to be a blast and to be funny and to be a ride the way The Force Awakens and the original Star Wars movies were,” Johnson explained.

Second, previous ‘Star Wars: Episode VIII’ spoilers were confirmed as the director assures fans that they will know more about the new characters in ‘The Force Awakens.’ These include Rey (Daisy Ridley) who is training to be a Jedi, Finn (John Boyega) the ex-Stormtrooper, and Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) the excellent X-wing flier.

In particular, Johnson aims to bring forward not only their backstory but the challenges that will either make them or break them.

“Let’s throw that at them and dig into what really makes them tick by seeing how they handle that,” he added.

Moreover, fans’ speculations about Rey’s bond with Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) could be confirmed as Johnson shared that ‘Star Wars: Episode VIII’ will begin by shedding light on the duo’s relationship after the previous movie ended with Ridley’s character arriving on Skywalker’s island carrying his lightsaber.

In particular, familial themes will be underlined in the sequel, which will be a crucial part of Rey’s storyline.

Finally, Johnson admitted that the ‘Star Wars: Episode VIII’ title has already been finalized, saying that he had already “locked in his mind” the right words to attach to the next film title.

“It was in the very first draft I wrote,” he revealed.

The ‘Star Wars: Episode VIII’ premiere has been set on Dec. 15, 2017.
