At a London court hearing today, a long-time cast member of a top television show in the UK was cleared of 6 sex-related charges. "Coronation Street" actor William Roache was found not guilty on two counts of rape and four of sexual assault after a three-week trial at Preston Crown Court, The Independent said in a report.
Roache has been famously known as the "Lothario of the cobbles," mainly because of his many dalliances with women. In an interview by an editor of the UK newspaper Mirror, Roache maneuvered himself to admit that he has gotten involved sexually with around a thousand women.
"Well I'm not denying it. There were plenty of girls around. I shouldn't have done it. I didn't have any control over my own sex drive. I didn't have the strength to control it," the actor explained.
The Independent said that among of his sexual relationships was with "Coronation Street" screen siren Pat Phoenix. The newspaper also quoted Roache, who said that he also has relationships with other famous individuals but refused to divulge details as he is a gentleman.
Despite his revealing, candid interviews with the press, the jury at the trial reportedly excluded the evidence of such public admissions, the British newspaper said. Also in the trial, Roache claimed that the alleged sexual abuse victims had put themselves in the situation and that the sexual acts with them were consensual. He said, "If you accept that you are pure love, and if you know that you are pure love and therefore live that pure love, these things won't happen to you. Everything that happens to us has been a result of what we have been in previous lives or whatever."
