Despite President-elect Donald Trump expressing second thoughts on the repeal of Obamacare, Senate Republicans have already started huddling and planning to roll back President Obama's primary health care program. This opens up the battlefield for the two parties in Congress as Democrats also rally together to make sure that Senate Republicans fail.
According to the New York Times, both Vice President-elect Mike Pence and President Obama visited Capitol Hill to reinforce to their respective party mates the importance of their stand. Pence, for his part, expressed his determination to have the current administration's signature health care law repealed once Donald Trump's administration takes over later this month. The Senate Republicans, however, have not been clear as to what their health care plans are should they succeed in their plans.
Obama, on the other hand, also met Senate Democrats, led by New York senator and Democrat leader Chuck Schumer, in a bid to have his party mates to rally behind Obamacare. According to sources, Obama took 90 minutes to talk to Senate Democrats, warning them that defecting on votes that would repeal certain provisions of Obamacare would not be a smart move.
CNN also reported that Obama floated the idea of calling the still-unclear replacement healthcare of Republicans "Trumpcare." This move indicates a decisive party stance to turn the tables on the Republicans and make them move fast in creating a new healthcare bill.
Donald Trump's inauguration will be broadcasted live on Friday, January 20. The Lawyer Herald will be posting more updates on the repealing of Obamacare and the Trump administration's healthcare plans in the coming weeks.
